How to clean your refill containers

If you’re living a low-waste lifestyle, you probably have a growing collection of bottles at home just waiting for their next life. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you reuse them safely and effectively.

Why Clean Refill Containers Matter

One of the main reasons many companies hesitate to offer refills is the fear of contamination. While our products are plant-based and contain naturally derived preservatives, these preservatives work best when no contaminants like tap water, dust, or residue from old products are present.

To ensure the safety and longevity of your refilled products - especially natural face and body care items like lotions and oils - it’s best to use only clean, completely dry containers. We also recommend a “bottle reset” once a year, giving your containers a deep clean and sanitization before continuing to refill.

Bottle Reset

Step 1: Remove Residue

• Thoroughly wash your container with hot water and soap, or run it through the dishwasher if it’s dishwasher-safe. Make sure all product residue is completely removed.

  
  

Step 2: Sanitize

• Rinse with 120-proof alcohol (60% alcohol content) to remove any remaining water. You can also use our Hand Sanitizer for the final rinse.

  
  

Step 3: Ensure Complete Dryness

• Allow your containers to air-dry completely before bringing them in for refilling. Any moisture can lead to contamination.

  
  

How to Clean Pumps & Sprays

• Remove all product residue.

• Pump hot, soapy water through the mechanism until completely clean.

• For creams - use a straw-cleaning brush.

• Pump through clean, cold water. Or use 120-proof alcohol or our Hand Sanitizer to sanitize the interior.

• Ensure the pumps and tops are fully dry before reassembling.
