If It’s Unscented, Why Can I Smell Something?

Replenish Refillery has unscented options
Choose from our unscented options in the House & Home, Bath & Body, Kids, and Pets sections.

We stock a wide range of unscented products at Replenish, and customers sometimes ask:

“If it’s unscented, why can I still smell something?”

The answer is simple: unscented does not always mean completely odourless.

The ingredients used in cleaning, laundry and personal-care products naturally have aromas of their own. Soaps, plant oils, minerals, waxes, preservatives and other functional ingredients may smell slightly earthy, soapy, oily or medicinal, even when no scent has been added.

That smell may be more noticeable when you first open the container, but it often fades during use and is unlikely to leave a lingering scent behind.

Why Do Some People Notice It More?

Our sense of smell is very individual. An aroma that seems barely noticeable to one person may be quite distinct to someone else, particularly for those who are sensitive to scent.

We may also become more aware of the natural smell of ingredients when we switch from strongly perfumed products to unscented ones.

Choosing the Unscented Option that Works for You

Everyone has different preferences and sensitivities. At Replenish, we are always happy to help you explore the options and find products that suit your household.

You are welcome to smell a product before buying, ask us about the ingredients or try a smaller refill first.
